Templar Software Announces its Enrollment in the AS3 Interoperability Testing

Templar 5.3 entered the Drummond Group’s AS3 Interoperability testing on October 18th, 2004. The standardization of secure FTP has been a hot topic for Templar 5 users for some time and Templar Software is proud to announce this as one of our latest product enhancements. By adding the AS3 certification, Templar enters an elite group of 7 companies that will now offer products that support all of the AS1, AS2 and AS3 protocols. The biggest difference in Templar 5, as compared to our competitors, is that we empower the user and allow the choice of transfer protocol at no additional charge. Templar 5 does not restrict which mode of transport is used to exchange data. We now offer the ability to exchange files using AS1, AS2 or AS3 in one product, at no additional charge. Our goal is to build software to meet and exceed the needs of the ever changing business world.

About AS3:
AS3 (Applicability Statement 3) is the draft specification standard by which vendor applications communicate EDI (or other data such as XML) over the Internet using File Transfer Protocol (FTP).

AS3 is not the next version of AS2 as it offers its own unique features and provides security for the transport payload through digital signatures and data encryption. It also ensures reliable delivery through the use of receipts. AS3 only specifies how to transport data and not how to validate or process it. As with both AS1 and AS2, AS3 was developed as part of the IETF EDI-INT Work Group.
